Until now, the integration process still leads to conflict and different views between Indonesia and the Papuan ethnic group itself, which tends to support the Right to Self-Determination (HMNS), in order to leave the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. Until now, demands for an independent Papua are still fermenting in several regions in eastern Indonesia. This was made worse by an incident that caused a stir in the media in 2010 regarding insulting the race and skin color of Papuans, then in 2015 the artist Cita Citata related to her words that offended Papuans. Another case in 2019 occurred in Surabaya and other reasons that confirmed Papua wanting to secede from the Republic of Indonesia. Capturing this situation, this research focuses on describing the image of media that attempts to present Papuan culture on screen without discrimination in order to keep the Republic of Indonesia intact from divisions. With a knife Critical discourse analysis is Norman Fairclough's theory that views texts as playing a role in shaping the way people see themselves and others. The results of this research are, 1. Social media opens the boundaries between west and east so that Indonesian people feel together and synergized, 2. Indonesian people feel proud of the existence of exotic Papuan culture thanks to social media uploads, 3. Most netizen comments provide full support towards Papua as part of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, 4. The use of social media is effective in increasing the positive image of Papua, this is proven by the many positive comments from the comments column and live chat.
Rima Rima, Canggi Aralia Aprianti Ode, Nursyamsi Nursyamsi, Juminah Juminah ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://unimuda.e-journal.id/jurnalikom/article/view/5950 Tue, 12 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000
