The research problem centers on assessing how gender is portrayed in the textbook titled "My Next Words for Elementary School," designed for 1st-grade students. The purpose of the research is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the textbook's content, examining categories such as omission, firstness, occupational visibility, nouns, masculine generic construction, and adjectives, within the framework proposed by Porreca (1984). The methodology employed is a content analysis with a descriptive qualitative design. The study meticulously examines the 13 chapters of the textbook, analyzing both textual and illustrative elements. The findings reveal a balanced gender representation in text and illustrations, fostering an inclusive learning environment. The arrangement of sentences demonstrates an equitable introduction of male and female characters, promoting a sense of equality. The textbook breaks away from traditional gender norms by incorporating diverse occupational roles, ensuring both male and female characters engage in various professions. Nouns related to gender are thoughtfully selected to avoid reinforcing stereotypes, and masculine generic construction is balanced. Adjectives are distributed fairly between male and female characters. In the findings, the study emphasizes the contribution of the analyzed textbook in promoting gender inclusivity and avoiding stereotypes in elementary education. This research has implications for curriculum development and instructional material design, advocating for more inclusive and gender-sensitive educational resources in elementary schools.
Evatul Vionisa Syifa Khuriyatuz Zahro ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2024-05-08 2024-05-08 11 1 36 47 10.36232/jurnalpendidikanbahasa.v11i1.5774 Implementation of the Student Centered Learning Approach in Improving English Learning Outcomes https://unimuda.e-journal.id/jurnalinteraction/article/view/5821
This research aims to investigate the implementation of the Student Centered Learning approach in improving students' English learning outcomes. Second, stereotypes, when a woman behaves unfavorably or imitates a man, she will be perceived as a bad woman, like what Jo did because she always do the boyish tricks. Third, marginalization, show by Jo character that can be the backbone of his family when their father go to the war. Fourth, burden of work, where the Jo and also her sibling not only work to earn money, they also work at home to clean the house. For the last form, which is violence, it did not happen in the novel. In order to rouse women at the time, gender injustice was brought up in "Little Women," and as a result, the subject came to represent the state of American society at that time. Later, this process escalated and transformed into a trend due to the advanced development of technology and unforeseen phenomena like the COVID-19 pandemic. However, teaching and learning within the platform are not equally similar in terms of sense and practice. Particularly, assessing student progress and reflecting on the learning process that has been done might not be as easy as what conventional or offline classes can offer. This research provides one particular way to assess it. Through the eyes of students as well as tutors, we could also gain valuable information regarding how learning within e-learning environments has been performed. This research applied qualitative analysis with the help of questionnaire, as well as NVivo as the tool for natural language processing analysis. A total of 66 tutors and approximately 471 students were involved. Based on the findings and analysis, it is shown that tutors tend to mention 7 frequent words, while students mention 8 words. This is a unique concern for children growing up in broken homes regarding the development of their marriage and family arrangements. Children who come from broken homes have fears and stress about marriage and family development. As normal young people from broken homes have done primary exploration and have worries about going to marriage and framing family after that, they feel injury and fear about how to run a big family. Researchers use phenomenological and purposive techniques in qualitative research. Considering that the examination that has been completed found that young people who live in broken families are afraid of getting married and starting a family, they imagine that they do not yet dare to step into marriage. Even though there are some young people who already have partners, they still need to be more open about moving up to a higher level of marriage. Not only in Indonesia but also around the world. Ternate North Maluku is one of the cities in Indonesia that became the site of this current study, which explains the phenomenon of online games taking place and their role in children's autonomous English learning. This study is located in Jerbus Village, South Ternate. To provide more honest and accurate data, the interviews were semi-structured with 11 children aged 7 to 12 years old. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the data analysis and interpretation used raw data, preparing data for analysis, collecting the data on the computer, coding data, relating themes, and interpreting the meaning of themes and descriptions (Creswell, 2009, p. 185). The results of this study explain that online games encourage children to learn English independently without any coercion from others. It also helps them learn English naturally and contributes to children's English acquisition. This research conclusion is that online games have so far only been considered to bring negative influences to children who have been addicted, such as the absence of socialization, lack of social interaction, affecting the quality of learning, and many other negative influences. This current study proves that online games also have a positive side. The positive role is to replace lost face-to-face social interaction with online interaction.
